Police say a small ferry packed with about 60 people has capsized in southern Bangladesh after being hit by a sand-laden trawler. At least one body has been found, but many survivors swam ashore.

Local police official Nuruzzaman Chowdhury said the accident took place early Thursday near Barisal town, 75 miles south of capital Dhaka.

Chowdhury says rescuers found the body of a woman, but that many other people who were on board were able to swim ashore.

Ferry accidents are common in Bangladesh, a delta nation of 150 million people.
