A small plane crashed into a hill in the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa, killing the pilot and five passengers, police said Saturday.

The aircraft went down Friday shortly after taking off from a private airfield in the town of Sinaloa de Leyva, about 900 kilometers south of the U.S. border, Sinaloa state police said.

Authorities said there were no survivors and cause of the crash was under investigation.

The bodies of the victims, who were all residents of Sinaloa, were released to family members on Saturday, police said.
