A police union leader says an off-duty Philadelphia police officer has been shot in an attempted robbery and a second person has been killed in the shooting.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 President John McNesby says the officer was visiting friends Wednesday night in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia when he was shot. The officer was taken to Temple University Hospital, where McNesby says he is in surgery and listed in serious condition. The other shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

McNesby says the officer has been on the force for two years.

Police are looking for two men who were seen running from the scene.
