NEW YORK – A personal assistant has been convicted of second-degree murder in the slaying of her punk-rock manager boss in New York City.
Manhattan jurors reached the verdict Tuesday against Natavia Lowery after less than a day of deliberations.
Lowery showed no reaction when the verdict was read.
Lowery had confessed on videotape to the 2007 bludgeoning death of 62-year-old Linda Stein, but later said the confession was false.
Prosecutors say Lowery killed Stein in her Fifth Avenue apartment after stealing more than $30,000 from her.
Lowery's attorney said in closing arguments Monday that police plied Lowery into a false confession after 12 hours of questioning.
Stein managed the Ramones before becoming a real estate agent with celebrity clients like Madonna and Sting.
