Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will meet Tuesday, despite a series of attacks by Arab militants, a senior Israeli government official said.

The meeting will take place in Israeli territory, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. One possible venue is the Erez crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip, which has Israeli- and Palestinian-controlled sections.

The Palestinians had initially insisted that the meeting take place in Egypt, but Israel rejected the demand.
