An Akron man was severely burned after an explosion caused his two-story home to collapse on Tuesday, local FOX affiliate WJW-TV reported on Tuesday.

Roofers working next door reported seeing a man running out of the house and screaming for someone to call 911. They also said there was glass scattered about the site.

Video footage showed a gaping hole in the roof and what appeared to be siding remnants and other debris outside the home.

The man was taken to Akron Children's Hospital's burn unit.

The man's daughter said her father was working in the basement when the explosion happened.

Akron firefighters were still fighting the blaze at noon on Tuesday.

Representatives of East Ohio Gas were also headed to the scene.
