TOLEDO, Ohio – Police say a man has released his estranged wife after holding her at gunpoint for more than five hours at a Toledo retirement community.
Toledo police Capt. Ron Navarro says Michael Swiergosz remains holed up in a vacant room at Sunset House.
Police say Swiergosz allowed his wife, media identified as Barbara Swiergosz, to walk out and that she's safe.
A woman identified as her mother told WTOL-TV in Toledo that Swiergosz has abused his wife in the past.
Tuesday's standoff comes about a month after the same held police at bay for three hours during a domestic violence call at his home.
Navarro says hostage negotiators are in contact with Swiergosz at the Sunset House assisted-living home.
