A search is under way for a California pilot and passenger bound from Alaska to Canada.

Pilot Gary Petigler and a passenger left at 4 p.m. Saturday from the Wolf Lake Airport near Palmer, Alaska, in a single-engine red and white Beechcraft.

Their flight plan said they would be in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, by 8:30 p.m. Saturday, but they never showed up.

Military and civil aircraft on both sides of the border are searching for the plane.

Capt. David Burneau of the Canadian Air Force says the pilot arrived in Whitehorse earlier this month.

He made trips to Logan Glacier and the northern coast of the Yukon before flying on to Alaska.
