Visitors to California may someday fly directly to "The O.C." (search)

An Orange County supervisor has suggested adding the name of the popular Fox drama series to John Wayne Airport (search). It'd be called The O.C Airport/John Wayne Field.

Supervisor Chris Norby (search) says the community should capitalize on its new-found fame.

"The O.C." is about wealthy teens living in affluent seaside suburbs south of Los Angeles.

Norby's staff seemed to back off the idea this week, saying there are no plans making a formal proposal to the board.

Norby wanted to add "The O.C." to the airport's name before the show debuted last year.

The county named the airport for John Wayne after the actor's death in 1979. A large statue greets travelers at Santa Ana airport, which served 8.5 million people last year.
