An off-duty New York City police officer has been arrested on a rape charge and accused of forcing himself on an 18-year-old woman.

The New York Police Department says the 29-year-old officer was arrested Friday by the Internal Affairs Bureau.

He'd been on the job since 2006 and was assigned to the department's Transit Bureau. A Patrolmen's Benevolent Association spokesman says he doesn't know if the officer has exercised his right to a PBA attorney.

A message left at a number listed under the officer's name was not immediately returned.
