NORMAN, Okla. – A Norman nursing home could face fines of up to $3,000 a day after a state investigation uncovered numerous deficiencies including failing to fully investigate abuse allegations.
The Whispering Pines Nursing Center also was cited for endangering patients' health by not providing condoms to a sexually active, HIV-positive nursing home resident.
The two infractions are among 16 serious deficiencies included in a 370-page report released Nov. 7.
Whispering Pines attorney Linda Scoggins says staff members are working to bring the home into compliance and the nursing home plans to dispute some of the deficiencies.
The Health Department is recommending Whispering Pines not be allowed to accept any new Medicare and Medicaid patients until the deficiencies are corrected.
Health Department long-term care division chief Dorya Huser says if the center isn't in compliance within six months its Medicare and Medicaid payments for existing patients could be cut off.
