Those looking to send a Valentine to their sweetheart in Saudi Arabia today may discover it difficult to find a gift.

The conservative Mulsim Kingdom's Muttawa — or religious police — have reportedly been out on patrol, enforcing a ban on Valentine's Day symbols.

Riyah florists and gift shops have been told not to even think about displaying roses, red-colored gifts or anything else in the capital that may represent the lovers' holiday, Reuters reports.

The Muttawa have also sent "agents" in camouflage clothes check to make sure their orders are carried out, AFP reports.

Saudi Arabia has issued a fatwa against Valentine's Day — named after the Christian patron saint of love — saying it promotes immorality, it is reported.
