An Ocala jury has gone home without reaching a verdict in the tax evasion trial of Wesley Snipes.

Thursday was the second full day of deliberations for the jury consisting of five men and seven women. Deliberations will resume Friday morning.

Snipes and two co-defendants are accused of fraud and conspiracy. The government says the three conspired to illegally ask for millions of dollars in refunds of taxes they had already paid.

In addition, Snipes is charged with failing to file federal returns for several years.

Snipes' lawyers have said he was the victim of bad financial advice and was sincere in the belief that he didn't have to pay the government anything. But at trial, the defense rested without calling a witness, claiming the government didn't meet its burden of proof in the case.
