Former fireball reliever Ugueth Urbina is serving a 14-year sentence in prison for the attempted murder of five workers on his family's ranch in Venezuela.

Urbina, a two-time All-Star who won a World Series with the Florida Marlins in 2003, was accused by the Venezuelan Attorney General's Office of joining a group of men in attacking workers with machetes and pouring gasoline on them on Oct. 16, 2005. His attorney has said Urbina only surprised the workers and verbally disciplined them.

The 34-year-old Urbina, who last pitched with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2005, is appealing the conviction.
