Darryl Henley, a former starting cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams and an All-American at UCLA, is not eligible for release from federal prison until 2031 for convictions on cocaine trafficking charges. He even pleaded guilty to trying to hire a hitman to murder his sentencing judge and a witness in the drug case.
Henley notched 12 interceptions for the Rams in 76 games, but now he maintains a Web site from a Texas prison, warning young athletes to "cut out and remove specific associations around them."
"A physical move to step away from past relationships that have already proven to be dangerous, and sometimes disastrous, is the only way for you to go," Henley, now 42, wrote on Jan. 29, 2008. "It is your life and you alone are responsible for it."
