Nigerian kidnappers are demanding $136,000 in ransom for a Canadian woman abducted last week in Kaduna, AFP reported.

"We are in touch with the kidnappers ... their initial demand was 100 million naira but in the course of negotiations on the phone they have scaled back to 20 million naira," Kaduna state police commissioner Tambari Yabo Mohammed told AFP.

The woman was identified as Julie Ann Mulligan, 45. She is reportedly one of five Canadians in on a Rotary exchange program in the country, AFP reported.

"We are in constant touch with the kidnappers through the mobile phone they snatched from Mulligan's Nigerian friend Moses Kadeer and we are doing everything possible to secure her release," Mohammed said.
