REDONDO BEACH, Calif. – Redondo Beach police say trash collectors have found a dead newborn baby in a curbside bin and they're trying to locate the mother.
Sgt. Phil Keenan says collectors were removing some trash from a heavy 64-gallon bin in front of a home when they found the body at around 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Keenan says the child was naked and apparently was born healthy. He didn't know the child's gender.
The sergeant says police aren't sure whether someone in the neighborhood placed the child in the bin or whether it was someone who drove by on the nearby Pacific Coast Highway.
Officers are going door-to-door to investigate.
