NEW YORK – A construction worker fell about 48 stories to his death at a Manhattan construction site, fire officials said.
The worker — who was on a crew dismantling a crane — apparently tumbled from a walkway between the crane and the building, according to officials at the scene.
He landed in a construction lot that is surrounded by a fence, and his body was placed in an ambulance.
The site — a glass-walled skyscraper— is between 41st and 42nd streets, and 10th and 11th avenues in Midtown Manhattan. The crane is visible from the 11th Avenue side.
The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. EDT Thursday.
The victim's name was not released.
