A Reno man is facing cruelty to animals and other charges for allegedly bludgeoning a neighbor's Chihuahua to death.

Police say 44-year-old David Wells is accused of removing several wooden slats from a neighbor's patio fence and killing the dog Sunday night.

Investigators say Wells denied harming the small dog, but he was arrested after blood evidence and witnesses statements contradicted his story.

He also was booked on suspicion of trespassing and destruction of property.
