MADISON, Wis. – A 22-year-old college student missing for the last two weeks has been dealing with the recent deaths of her father and stepmother, and had two convictions for drunken driving.
Kelly Nolan, a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater senior, went missing after a late night of partying June 22.
Nolan was convicted of drunken driving twice in the last three years. Her driver's license is currently suspended. This spring, Nolan served 14 days in the Walworth County Jail after pleading guilty to driving under the influence as a second offense, jail officials reported.
Joel DeSpain, spokesman for the Madison Police Department, said detectives don't know if alcohol is a factor in the woman's disappearance. She called her younger sister, April, early June 23 and told her where she was, but authorities have not released details of that conversation. April Nolan also has not commented on what the two discussed.
Waunakee Police Chief Kevin Plendl said Kelly Nolan had come to the department's attention a few times for being involved in vehicle crashes. Most recently, in June 2005, she was cited for inattentive driving after a crash in Waunakee, Plendl said.
April Nolan, 20, said Kelly was recovering after the deaths of their father in 2006 and their stepmother in May, both in Illinois. She would not comment on her sister's drunken driving citations.
Nolan's family -- including her mother, Mary Jane, of Waunakee, and sisters, Candice, 25, and April -- has offered a reward for information related to her disappearance.
