The dismembered body of a French man was found Monday at a home in Cancun, police said.

Police found the body after neighbors complained about a smell coming from the home, said Julio Moreno, who is head of investigations for the attorney general's office in the state where Cancun is located.

Officials used IDs found in the house to identify the man as 50-year-old Patrick Dopudert, Moreno said. The spelling of his name and his age could not be confirmed by the French Embassy.

He said pieces of the body were found in the bathroom and in a small freezer, and that the man apparently had lived in Cancun for months.

Police have not determined a motive for the killing.
