On Tuesday, February 19 four students in Cottonwood, Minnesota were killed when the school bus they were riding in overturned and landed on a pick-up truck after being struck by a van.

Now the 23-year old Minnesota woman who was driving the van is facing four counts of vehicular homicide. Police say the woman, Alianiss Nunez Morales, failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a bus carrying 28 students.

In addition to the possible vehicular homicide charges, questions are being raised as to whether Morales even had a driver’s license, as well as if she is a legal U.S. citizen. According to a local spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, federal immigration officials are assisting in the investigation of the crash and looking for background information on Morales.

In the meantime, the community of Cottonwood continues to mourn the loss of the four students.
