SALEM, Mass. – A Massachusetts man is being returned to the state to face a murder charge in the stabbing death of his girlfriend, who was nine months pregnant.
Prosecutors say Peter Ronchi waived rendition at a court hearing Monday in Connecticut. He'll be returned and arraigned Wednesday in the slaying of 42-year-old Yuliya Galperina.
Ronchi is accused of killing Galperina on Sunday at her apartment in Salem, a seaport city northeast of Boston noted for its witch trials in 1692. The Marblehead resident surrendered to police in Norwalk, Conn., later in the day.
Galperina's unborn child also died. Her 3-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son are in state custody.
Ronchi's neighbors defend him and say he's a quiet man.
