A western Los Angeles woman was shot in the neck when she partially opened her door on Halloween for a masked person she thought was a trick-or-treater.

Police Detective Scott Walton says the 64-year-old woman was in her home in the Mar Vista area Friday night when the suspect rang her doorbell.

KCBS-TV reports the person was wearing a "Scream" mask.

The suspect asked the woman if her son was home when she opened the door as far as her chain lock would allow. She said he wasn't home and the person said "I owe him one" and opened fire. One of the bullets ricocheted and hit her in the neck.

Walton says the woman was in stable condition following surgery for the bullet wound.
