Man Wanted in 1989 Colorado Murder Arrested in Mexico

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Mesa County sheriff says a suspect in a 20-year-old slaying has been arrested in Mexico.

Sheriff Stan Hilkey said Tuesday that 59-year-old Rafael "Shorty" Garcia Aguilar was arrested Thursday in Colima, Mexico.

Hilkey says Aguilar faces charges in the July 4, 1989, slaying of Charles "Chuck" Porter in Palisade, about 8 miles east of Grand Junction and 180 miles west of Denver.

Hilkey has scheduled a news conference later Tuesday to discuss details of the arrest.
