A man hospitalized in China became so excited after community leaders told him they would pay for his hospital bills that he suddenly died.

His family sued the hospital for not informing him about the extent of his medical problems, China Daily News reported.

The 50-year-old man, whose surname was Zhu, had suffered from hypertension, coronary heart disease and stomach bleeding.

Zhu was staying at the hospital on a long-term basis. When community leaders told him of his good fortune in November 2007, he got very excited and died 10 minutes later.

A court recently ruled that the hospital had to pay Zhu’s family $13,190.
