Police in Griffith say a 35-year-old man admitted he killed two sisters who were found dead with their throats cut in a burning house.

Griffith police Lt. Don McCarter says the man was an acquaintance of 25-year-old Kristen Evans Kennedy of Chicago and 28-year-old Jennifer Evans.

Firefighters responding to a fire Friday evening found the women dead in the bathroom of Evans' Griffith home. Police believe the fire was set to cover up the killings.

Investigators have recovered two knives believed to be connected with the killings. McCarter declined to discuss the motive.

Police did not immediately release the identity of the man, who was expected to be formally charged Monday.
