Madonna's rep says she is not "on the very cusp" of adopting a 3-year-old Malawian girl, as the U.K.'s Sun reported.

"There is no truth to this rumor,” her rep tells CelebTV.com. “It’s an old one — wasn’t true then or now. Madonna is starting her tour in a week.”

Malawian Adoption Minister Penstone Kilembe told the British paper that "Madonna’s representatives have been visiting the girl," referring to orphan Mercy James.

"The adoption is now advanced — all the government is waiting for is Madonna to forward the petition of adoption formalities. Then Mercy will be able to leave the country for a new life," Kilembe said.

Officials told the Sun on Tuesday that the star has resumed her yearlong battle for Mercy James after scrapping it four months ago.

Pals told the Sun the move proves Madonna's marriage to Guy Ritchie, rumored to be troubled, is "back on track."

Friends also told the tabloid that the singer, who turns 50 on Saturday, is keen to have another sister for her adopted Malawian son, David Banda, 3, and feels her marriage is again strong enough to cope.

Madonna also has a daughter, Lourdes, 11, and another son, Rocco, 8.
