Las Vegas Socialite Convicted of Shooting Fifth Husband Gets New Trial

LAS VEGAS – A woman convicted of killing her millionaire husband in one of Las Vegas' most high-profile murder cases will be getting a new trial.

Margaret Rudin was convicted of murder with a deadly weapon in 2001 in the shooting death of her fifth husband.

The former socialite dubbed the "black widow" was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years.

On Friday, District Judge Sally Loehrer ruled in Las Vegas that Rudin's attorneys weren't properly prepared to defend her at her trial.

The skull and some charred bones of Rudin's husband were found in 1995 in the desert about 45 miles from Las Vegas. Prosecutors said she killed him to get a 60 percent share of his $11 million fortune.
