With Britney’s comeback in full effect, her ex-husband Kevin Federline is ready to set the record straight.

In a new exclusive interview with People magazine, Federline has shed his party-boy, rapper, gold-digger, boy-toy names in favor of “daddy.”

Since splitting with Spears in 2006, the ex-backup dancer, 30, has no doubt been through a whirlwind, but has kept mum until now.

Federline, who says he met Spears, 27, at Joseph’s club in Hollywood, said he and the singer hit it off right away.

“I never thought that I would get married but it wound up happening. That was a really, really, happy, exciting moment,” he told People. “I pretty much realized that I was giving my life to her, and I was doing it without question.”

Federline said he was “completely blindsided” when Spears filed for divorce, but admits that Spears took a backseat to the kids.

“It’s hard enough to be in a marriage, and then have a kid, then kids, it changes everything. For me, I’d become more concerned with my children. Not that I ignored Britney, but my kids are always most important … I mean, we were having complications. I didn’t give her an ultimatum, but I was trying to work out stuff with her …”

Federline, like most of America, says he is rooting for Britney, and said her apparent breakdown in January was “one of the lowest points of depression” for him.

“I was very, very worried for her ‘cause I care about her. That’s the mother of my children. Just because I’m not in love with her doesn’t mean that I don’t love her …”
