A jury convicted a 50-year-old man Monday in the slaying of an elderly aunt of former "Dateline NBC" anchor Stone Phillips.

Miguel Arciba received an automatic life sentence for the death of 81-year-old Doris Phillips. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.

Doris Phillips disappeared from her home in Reagor Springs, 32 miles south of Dallas, in July 2006. Investigators said Arciba led them two months later to the woman's body in an abandoned farmhouse about 11 miles southeast of her home.

Autopsy results indicated Doris Phillips suffered a fractured pelvis and skull.

Phillips left "Dateline NBC" in June 2007.
