A Nevada judge has refused to block a Henderson high school theater class from performing "The Laramie Project" this weekend and the musical "Rent" early next year.

Clark County District Court Judge David Wall ruled Tuesday that participation and attendance at the plays was voluntary.

A group of Green Valley High School parents had sued to stop the productions.

They argued that themes involving homosexuality, drug use and sexual orientation were too adult for their children, who were being denied participation in the school theater program.

"The Laramie Project" deals with the slaying of a gay college student in Wyoming.

"Rent" is about starving artists coping with drug addiction and AIDS

A lawyer accused school officials of failing to properly clear the subject matter with parents beforehand.
