The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Attleboro, Mass., near the Rhode Island state line, remain closed after a tanker truck hit a car and rolled over, spilling thousands of gallons of jet fuel.

Three people were injured in the accident and about a dozen nearby homes have been evacuated.

State police say the southbound truck rolled after colliding with the car about 4:45 a.m. Thursday.

The truck spilled about a third of the 11,000 gallons of fuel it was carrying. The fuel flowed into storm drains, prompting the evacuations.

The highway was closed in both directions, before northbound lanes reopened about 6:30 a.m. A State Police spokesman said crews hoped to have the entire road reopened in time for the evening commute.

The truck driver, car driver and a passenger in the car were taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, R.I., with minor injures.
