An OK! magazine article claiming Tony Romo dumped Jessica Simpson after his team was eliminated from the NFL playoffs is "utterly false" and reflects a "smear campaign," her lawyers said.

Simpson's lawyers sent a letter to OK! Editor-in-Chief Sarah Ivens claiming the article is "utterly false" and "is based on nothing more than rumor, gossip and innuendo," FOXNews.com confirmed.

The attorneys also said the article reflects a "smear campaign" and has subjected Simpson to "public contempt, ridicule, aversion or disgrace," and they want OK! to "immediately publish a prominent and unambiguous" retraction.

The piece also claims Jessica's famous sister Ashlee Simpson has attempted to "distance herself" from her older sibling. The lawyers said that is also untrue.
