A janitor has pleaded not guilty to fatally stabbing a popular Roman Catholic priest in New Jersey.

Jose Feliciano entered his plea through his attorney Wednesday in state Superior Court in Morristown.

Feliciano was charged with murder in October after the Rev. Edward Hinds was found on the floor of the rectory of St. Patrick Parish in Chatham. Prosecutors say he stabbed Hinds more than 30 times.

Feliciano, of Easton, Pa., had worked for the parish for 17 years. He is being held on $1 million bail.
