Authorities in Jamaica say three gunmen entered a public school in Montego Bay and killed a food vendor as teachers and students ran for cover.

A police statement released Saturday says the men also shot two other vendors, including a pregnant woman.

The statement notes that the woman has been hospitalized in serious condition while the other victim was treated and released. No students were injured in Friday's attack at the Farm Primary and Junior High School in St. James parish.

The shooters are still at large and police have not yet established a motive.

Education minister Andrew Holness has ordered increased security at public schools, including more regular use of metal detectors.
