Going green can be a pain if you're packing heat.

The New York Police Department is modifying 58 Nissan Altima hybrid vehicles because of a unique occupational hazard.

The seats curl up around the edges. When officers get out of their cars, their gun handles press painfully into their hips. The cars will be given flatter seats and a lower center console.

Deputy Inspector Albert Becker says it will cost about $1,100 per car for those changes and some others, like easy-to-clean, back-seat vinyl.

On the plus side, the cars get about 35 miles per gallon.
