Pakistani officials say a botched homicide bombing aimed at a security convoy on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Peshawar has wounded three children playing nearby.

City police chief Liaquat Ali Khan says a homicide bomber who attempted to attack a convoy of vehicles from the paramilitary Frontier Corps on Thursday tripped, accidentally detonating his explosives.

Khan said the blast killed the man and two other bombers who were set to attack the troops. It also wounded the three children.

Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain confirmed the details of the attack, which occurred on the boundary between Peshawar and the Khyber tribal area.
