REDLANDS, Calif. – Police said they have arrested four teenage boys on suspicion of raping two high school girls who told authorities the boys had invited them into a home for a drink.
Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker said the girls, ages 14 and 15, told investigators they were walking home at about 5 p.m. Friday when they came across a group of teenage boys.
They asked the girls if they wanted to drink with them, which they did, Baker said.
"The next thing you know, one of the boys was taking off their pants and sexually assaulting them," Baker said.
After the boys argued, Baker said, two of them walked the girls home.
But when they got to the home of one of the girls, they assaulted them again, Baker said.
Police Capt. Tom Fitzmaurice said he did not know why the girls waited until Sunday to report the incidents.
Three boys — ages 15, 16 and 17 — are facing sex charges and are in Juvenile Hall. A 17-year-old was arrested but has been released pending further investigation. Police have not released their names.
Fitzmaurice said it appears the boys and girls involved did not know each other beforehand.
"It was a chance meeting on the street," he said.
