Gorelick's Relic: Reason to Resign, or Totally Benign?

The panel probing the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks is defending Jamie Gorelick.

Gorelick is causing a stir since she — a commissioner on the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States — served as the No. 2 official in the Justice Department from 1994 to 1997, during the Clinton administration.

Both the Clinton and Bush administrations are key targets of the investigation, and although the panel is comprised entirely of Washington insiders and elected officials, Gorelick, a Democrat, is the only one who was actively serving an administration during the time being investigated.

During Tuesday's proceedings, Attorney General John Ashcroft pointed out that a 1995 memo written by Gorelick during her tenure as a second in command at the Justice Department helped build the "walls" that, according to Ashcroft's testimony, prevented the FBI from being able to effectively communicate and go after terrorists.

I have faithfully listened to the 9/11 commission testimony.  I had already been wondering how Gorelick got on this commission when she held such an important position in the Clinton administration-no one from either of these administrations should have been appointed to this panel.  When I found out about the STUPID WALL memo I was incredulous!  After the witch hunt conducted by the likes of Ben-Veneste and the appointment of Gorelick, when she obviously has a big stake in the outcome, this commission will lose all credibility unless she resigns.

The 9/11 Commission has begun to appear to be a bad Day Time Soap. Their speech making rather then asking fruitful, and well formulated questions is making this waste of 50 MILLION. No resonable adult will ever take a opinion ot the commission serious!

The fact that she was even appointed to the commission proves that it is a joke. They are not going to find all the facts when the main problem in the whole situation sits in a chair that is on the commission and not on the other side of the table. When she was put on the commission this had to be known, which shows me that this is all on party lines. Why are any of the commisioners politicians? There is the big problem!

Commissioner Gorelick should be sitting at a table opposite the commission, testifying herself. She needs to resign.

Ms. Gorelick is part of the problem. She can't be part of the solution. She should go -- and take Thomas Kean with her. According to him, "we the people" should stay out of *the commission's* business. On this April 15th, I'd like to remind both of them that this is *our* business and "we the people" write their paychecks. If these Washington insiders are not accountable to us, the terrorists don't need to "win" because we have already lost all that was worth fighting for.
