Girl, 7, Drowns in Arizona Flood
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The body of a 7-year-old girl was found 1 1/2 miles away from where she was last seen when her neighborhood became flooded by a wall of water, according to The Arizona Republic.
Marissa Reyes (search) was clinging to a ranchworker's hand as he clung to a tree when the force of the water tore their hands apart.
"The mother, who was still in the house, heard her daughter scream," Sgt. Kip Rustenburg, a spokeswoman with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, told The Republic. "When she looked out the window, she saw her daughter swept out of his grip."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The paper reported Reyes' home was situated in a "wash" area that was under 15 feet of water Tuesday.
Relatives and authorities searched for her Tuesday afternoon until midnight. They had resumed their search Wednesday morning.
Rustenburg said three adults and a 1-year-old baby evacuated the home and made it to safety after the first wave of water came rushing down a nearby creek. But Marissa slipped away during the second wave.
