The superintendent of the Gettysburg National Military Park says he is being reassigned because he used his federal computer to view sexually explicit images.

The National Park Service would not say why John Latschar is being reassigned.

But Latschar told the Evening Sun of Hanover for a story in Friday's editions that he was "going through some rough personal and professional times" in 2004 to 2006, when he used his computer to search for the images.

The Washington Post reported Monday that Interior Department investigators conducting an unrelated inquiry discovered Latschar had viewed thousands of sexually explicit images.

Latschar compared the images to those found in Playboy, but apologized and says "there's no excuse" for his behavior.
