A Georgia man spent 20 hours in jail this week after he was mistaken for a wanted man with whom he shares the same name and birthday.

The problems began after Michael Jordan (no relation to the basketball legend) rear-ended a woman’s car. When police came to write up an accident report, a 911 dispatcher alerted officers that Jordan was wanted on an outstanding warrant, MyFoxAtlanta.com reported.

Jordan said he repeatedly tried to explain to cops that they had the wrong guy, but they wouldn’t listen to him. During his incarceration, Jordan said he thought about his two kids and how he would explain the situation to them.

An official apologized for the blunder.

"We made a mistake," said Debra Lanier of Carroll County Emergency 911.
