An Atlanta-area high school is on lockdown after a student who was banned from campus was seen at the school.

DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish says the 1,400 students at Columbia High School in Decatur are being kept in classrooms until officers can be sure the student is no longer on campus.

She says the student came to school with a weapon last week but it is unknown if he was armed when he arrived at the school Wednesday morning.

She calls the lockdown a "precaution."

She did not know the student's name or age.
