Adonis Thompson (search) wanted to be a scientist when he grew up. Now, thanks to Fuse viewers, he'll be on-camera instead of working in a lab.

Thompson, 24, of Memphis, Tenn., won the cable music channel's "Ultimate Fuse Gig: The VJ Search (search)" contest Friday after receiving the majority of online votes. He bested Ronnie Ruelas Jr., a DJ from Los Angeles.

His first VJ duty is co-hosting "Videomaniac," a new show with Fuse VJ Marianela Pereyra that will be filmed on the streets of New York.

"I'm bringing a different type of style to Fuse," Thompson told The Associated Press Monday. "The way I was raised, you are who you are. That's my thing."

Thompson, who graduated from Arkansas State University in 2003 with a degree in radio and television, counts Linkin Park (search) and The Roots (search) among his favorite bands.

One of Cosmopolitan magazine's 50 Hottest Bachelors in America in 2004, he was approached by Fuse casting scouts in January about the contest.

In addition to Pereyra, Thompson joins Dylan Lane, Steven Smith and Juliya Chernetsky on Fuse's roster of VJs.

Thompson doesn't yet know how much he'll be paid. He's more worried about "getting used to being from country and coming to New York."

"I'm in it for the long haul," he said.
