SANTA ANA, Calif. – A former Marine has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for a deadly drunken driving crash in California that occurred hours after he attended a driving safety briefing.
Former Lance Cpl. Elijah Ferguson was sentenced Friday for the crash that killed an Orange County doctor and injured the victim's wife in February 2008.
The 22-year-old was convicted in December of second-degree murder and driving under the influence causing injury.
The crash occurred after Ferguson attended a safety briefing at Camp Pendleton that addressed the dangers of drunken driving.
Prosecutors say Ferguson rammed into the back of a car in Newport Beach, killing radiologist Michael Sein.
