DETROIT – Ford Motor Co. (F) said Tuesday it will offer an additional cash rebate of $1,000 on most 2005 model-year vehicles to clear out inventories, but ended its employee pricing discounts on 2006 model-year vehicles.
Under the program called Ford Family Plan (search), the automaker offered the discounts on most 2005 vehicles and some 2006 model-year pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, including the Super Duty pickup trucks, Expedition and Navigator SUVs.
Ford — which under the program sells new cars and trucks to the general public at the same price a Ford employee would pay — said it is extending the program through October 3 for its 2005 model-year vehicles only.
The cash rebate of $1,000 is in addition to the employee pricing discounts and is offered only if the customer finances the vehicle through Ford Credit.
Some vehicles including the Mustang, Five Hundred sedan, Escape hybrid SUV are not eligible for the additional cash.
Cross-town rival General Motors Corp. (GM) said last month it was extending its "Employee Discounts for all" program through Sept. 30.
The automaker also included most of GM's full-size pickups and sport utility vehicles from the 2006 model year in its discount plan. GM's program had previously been limited to 2005 model vehicles.
