The Phoenix Fire Department along with several units responded to the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station west of Phoenix.

Authorities say a maintenance crew noticed smoke coming from a piece of fiberglass in a cooling tower at Unit 3.

Arizona Public Service, which operates the station, says there is no fire at the station, and nobody was hurt.

Spokesman Jim McDonald says workers notice smoke earlier Wednesday. He says it came off a fiberglass barrier used to keep water off the maintenance crew.

He says the barrier never caught fire.

McDonald says the Unit 3 cooling tower is outside the station's fence and far away from any nuclear material.

Several units responded to the fire scene, according to a Phoenix Fire Department dispatcher.
