CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Tennessee woman found stabbed to death in the back of her husband's SUV was a Fort Campbell soldier who was on leave from Afghanistan.
The mother of Pfc. Ashley Cecelia Barnes-Lambert, 18, told the Leaf-Chronicle that she had recently filed for divorce from her husband, Khaleefa Lambert, 28.
The woman was found dead in Lambert's Mercury Mariner on Saturday after a state trooper pulled him over on Interstate 24 in Tennessee.
Michelle Bosarge, of Mobile, Ala., said she last saw her daughter when Barnes-Lambert visited during leave. Bosarge said her daughter then returned to Clarksville to talk with a divorce attorney.
Lambert has been charged with first-degree murder and was scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
Police say Lambert told them that on Saturday morning, he waited outside a motel where his wife had been staying.
Authorities say that when she came out, he approached her and admitted he "hurt her with a knife" before putting her into the vehicle he was driving.
Fort Campbell spokesman Josh Wick said Barnes-Lambert was an automated logistical specialist assigned to the 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 159th Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
She entered the Army in September 2007 and deployed to Afghanistan in December 2008.
She is also survived by her father, Duwayne L. Barnes of Pace, Fla., according to the military.
