BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton were in Buffalo yesterday to survey the region after this week's heavy snowstorm.
Schumer and Clinton met with Buffalo officials and first responders to discuss getting federal aid for western New York. The senators and authorities are working on efforts to commit government resources to recovery and cleanup after the record-breaking October storm that dumped nearly two feet of snow Thursday and Friday.
According to television station W-R-O-C in Rochester, Congressman Tom Reynolds says he's received assurance from Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff that help is on the way. Homeland Security is closely monitoring the clean up efforts and will work toward obtaining federal aid.
The storm also left thousands of homes and businesses without power. Crews are working overtime to restore power as quickly as they can, but some estimate that it may take several days.
